Recognizing a Long-standing Partnership

During the meeting, Ms. Sinwon Park, Director of the ILO Country Office in Vietnam, expressed her gratitude and appreciation for over 15-year partnership between the ILO and Vietnam. She emphasized VCCI-HCM’s pivotal role as an employer representative organization in supporting businesses toward sustainable development and inclusive, responsible business.

Representing VCCI-HCM, Mr. Tran Ngoc Liem introduced the new ILO Vietnam Director to the branch’s core functions and its extensive activities dedicated to the business community. Both parties discussed the current labor market and economic landscape in Ho Chi Minh City and neighboring provinces, noting emerging challenges such as labor shortages, an aging population, and the mounting pressure of digital and green transitions.

Focusing on Practical Support and ESG

Ms. Bui Thi Ninh, on behalf of BEA, highlighted specific collaborative initiatives with the ILO focused on:

  • Improving working environments and conditions.

  • Enhancing Occupational Safety and Health (OSH).

  • Promoting sustainable development through training and consultancy programs.

Ms. Ninh noted that the upcoming period would be one of rapid change and significant challenges for both VCCI-HCM and ILO. As the labor market fluctuates, VCCI-HCM has proactively implemented various activities to help businesses improve labor management, foster industrial relations, and adopt ESG (Environmental, Social, and Governance) practices to meet new international market requirements.

Expanding Strategic Cooperation

The two organizations also explored opportunities to expand their cooperation from central to local levels. Future priorities include:

  • Strengthening activities within the tripartite partnership framework.

  • Providing technical assistance for businesses undergoing digital and green transformations.

  • Enhancing labor relations, productivity, and workforce skills.
